Dr. Anagha Chhatrapati - Dosti Flamingoes

It is a great pleasure to feature Dr. Anagha Chhatrapati, a resident of Dosti Flamingos on Buzzytown “KNOW YOUR NEIGHBOURS”.

Name: Dr. Anagha Chhatrapati

Profession: Gynaecologist and Obstetrician at Gleneagles Hospital Parel

A LITTLE ABOUT DR. ANAGHA CHHATRAPATI

Long time resident - 17 years

Dr. Anagha Chhatrapati has been a resident of our neighbourhood for over 17 years (when Dosti Flamingos was just being constructed) and has 2 wonderful kids (Avighna studying in 11th and Aashka in 8th grade) in Bombay Scottish School, Mahim.

Gynaecologist and Obstetrician

She completed her MBBS from Grant Medical College Mumbai and MS Gynaecology from Seth GS Medical College and worked in KEM hospital for 13 years. She was a front line worker during the COVID 19 pandemic and has now devoted time for private practice and treatment of women.

From a family of public service

Dr Anagha is the granddaughter of Loknete DB Patil, who had through his lifetime fought for rights of farmers displaced due to urban development. The new airport at Navi Mumbai is being named after him.

What inspired you to become a gynaecologist?

I was inspired by my mother’s Gynaecologist. She was soft spoken, loving, modest and caring.  Where I grew up, a Gynaecologist was a doctor for everything, including cold cough and fever. They worked on all aspects of women’s health and that impressed me a lot. So here I am, trying to follow my role model. I truly feel that helping bring a new life into the world is a wonderful experience. More so when the couple has been struggling to have a baby.

Tell us something about your experience as a front line doctor during COVID-19

Covid was a really challenging period. On one hand we had our moral duty towards pregnant patients who were registered with us and could not go to any other place, and on the other, there were patients who turned covid positive and their primary doctors refused to help deliver their babies. We at Wadia hospital,  worked hard and delivered babies for all such patients.

How about on the personal front? How did you cope during COVID 19

We had kids and parents back home, who were at increased risk of getting infected with virus carried by us. So almost for 5 months I didn't come home, and stayed at hospital during covid period.  Whenever I remembered my kids, I would come to Dosti main gate, wave them from outside the gate and cry. After Covid came a bit under control and the mortality decreased, I finally returned back home.

What inspired you to go into politics?

I had grown up learning about my grand father’s work to protect the rights of displaced farmers. What I felt was even more important was the balancing act that he followed, ensuring that farmers received the right compensation while the development projects also continued.

Seeing both points of view

Over time, these lessons kept resonating within me and living here in Sewri, I was able to see the challenges faced by both the high-rise residents who struggle with narrow roads, congestion, pollution, while the poorer sections struggle with lack of proper facilities.

Better roads and living for high rise residents

I felt the need to transform our locality into something truly aspirational, with wider roads, lower congestion and just better living for every resident while also ensuring that the poorer sections are able to relocate to environments where they can access better sanitation, space and facilities.

Joining the front line again

I understand that this will take a lot of work and the best platform to do this is to join the frontline again – but this time as an independent candidate.

What are the key things that you want to do if you are elected?

While there are a lot of priorities, a few key things that come to mind are -

 Decongest and beautify Shivadi Roads.

  1. Ensure priority to long awaited road widening projects
  2. Slum and Chawl free Shivadi through rehabilitation and redevelopment
  3. Construction of public parking spaces
  4. Action against illegal and unauthorised vehicles parked on Shivadi Roads
  5. Construction of dorms for homeless and Tata hospital patient

What would you like to do for any sections of society in the long run?

Being a woman, and a doctor, I understand the need for citizens to enjoy good health in safe, secure and vibrant places. For this, a few things that I will focus on are -

Safety

Safety of women and action against perpetrators of crime against women

Strict action against drug peddlers and road side alcoholics

Infrastructure

Improvement in infrastructure of public sector hospitals in Shivadi constituency

Strict action on ghost faculty and errant doctors at public sector hospitals

Construction of large biogass project for disposal of biodegradable waste.

Empowerment

Woman empowerment projects like creating jobs, driving school dedicated to women, paramedical training etc

Abolition of reservations as per guidelines by Mandal Aayog
